The North Otago Photographic Society is a group of mostly amateur photographers located across North Otago who share a passion for a wide range of photographic styles.
Our members come from all walks of life and are at various stages in their pursuit of photography. We welcome photographers at all skill levels and without regard to what equipment they use.
The subjects of our members’ photography runs the gamut from the very, very small (such as minuscule fungi that appear in the forests of New Zealand) to the very, very large (such as nebulae spanning many light years across) and many of our members’ works perform very well in national and international competitions.
The Society's meetings on the first Thursday of the month (from February through November) are an opportunity to engage in a “pic of the night” competition with an ever-changing theme, learn new skills in capturing or processing images, and do other activities of a photographic nature. The group also organises occasional outings to places of photographic interest.
The Revitalise Our Places Oamaru display on Thames Street is one of the group’s first public displays of the members’ works. We hope it will prompt others with an interest in photography to come and join us.
