Sense of Place | Lyn Hewitson

Strata (detail), Lyn Hewitson

Lyn Hewitson is a mixed media artist who’s experiences range from television hosting and gallery management to artist in residence and international exhibition. She has been a keen photographer throughout her life and has recorded the places she has been fortunate enough to visit into a personal photographic archive.

After many years of life in the United Kingdom, she returned to New Zealand to eventually settle in the South Canterbury town of Waimate. Where she has set established The Beacontree Studio and now has time to revisit the locations recorded in the photographic resource. The starting point for all artwork is her belief in drawing as the foundation to any painting, with the intention to produce well observed subject matter. The process is unhurried and allows the influence of memory to convey and evolve into a sense of place.
