The Seafood Chowder is famous in Oamaru, known for its creamy flavour that satisfies all seafood lovers, and packed full of goodness. Available all day from 10am.
In the early days, the seafood came straight from the fishing boats in Ōamaru, but due to changes in regulations, it has to come from Timaru or Dunedin now - depending on who has the “sharpest deal”.
The Star and Garter has been serving food since 1908, and is the third oldest restaurant in New Zealand.
The name was commonly used with early settlers, and there were a number around the county - much like names The Crown or The Criterion.
