Corn and Chicken Soup

Yanina Tachnni wants people to come into Tees St Cafe and feel like they could be sitting anywhere in the world.

“We try to meet the standards of anywhere else in the world, you know, we want people to come to Tees St and find a little bit of everything.”

Rather than focus on their South American roots, she and chef husband Pablo have made the cafe menu a “big mix of what we really like”.

The soup Tees St is making for the Souper Soup Sipper is corn and chicken made with chilli, garlic, chicken broth and parmesan. It comes with toasted focaccia.

Yani said they like to use Waitaki suppliers as much as possible for all three of their Ōamaru eateries.

“We use Mean Greens a lot. They now have a massive range. So we are actually buying pretty much everything from them, all our vegetables, which is really good. And they have really competitive, good prices for such a small company.”

The Tachinni’s bought Tees St eight years ago, and Yani said the vibe is “kind of quirky, but quite modern”.

“So like, you know, we have people coming and saying that they come to Tees St and they feel like, you know, they can be anywhere in the world.”

They are also proud that all the food they serve is made in-house, from scratch.

“Our pies, all our slices, donuts, everything, we make. So sometimes our food can be a little bit limited, but that's because, you know, if we have a massive day, we have to produce a lot.

“But, you know, we continue, we have never stopped doing everything from scratch."
