'Welcome Back!' Weekend
With restrictions lifting, your Council venues are thrilled to welcome you back!
On the special “Welcome Back!” weekend of 28-29 May, an array of special activities are taking place at Forrester Gallery, Ōamaru Library, Ōamaru Opera House, Waitaki Aquatic Centre and Waitaki Museum and Archive.
Use the Stamp Hunt map to visit your venues and explore a little bit more - there’s so much on offer. Maps will be printed in the Oamaru Mail and can also be picked up from participating venues or downloaded here(PDF, 4MB) . Visit all your Council venues between 13 May and 28 May, follow the clues and gather stamps on your map. Bring your completed map to the FREE movie screening of “The Greatest Showman” at the Opera House at 4pm on 28 May and go in the draw to win prizes!
Oamaru Library
Free Activity | Story Time with the Mayor | Saturday 28 May, 11am-12pm
Building on the work of the Storybook Trail along Ōamaru Harbour, the Ōamaru library will be hosting ‘Story time with the Mayor’ at 11am on Saturday 28 May. There will be some spot prizes for families and children that come along.
Waitaki Aquatic Centre
Activities all weekend | Saturday & Sunday 28-29 May
Bombing Tower, Tarzan swing, water slide & dive board operating all weekend.
On Saturday 28 May from 11.30 – 12.30pm there'll be Learn To Swim Tasters (ages 0 – 8 - Limited numbers, call to register), followed by a 12.30 – 1pm Free AquaExercise session.
Then on Sunday 29 May, 12.30 – 1pm there'll be a free AquaExercise session, followed by 1.15 – 2pm Have a go – Flippa Ball plus 2.30pm – 4pm free Giant Inflatables in both pools!
Forrester Gallery
Free Tour | Maritza Boutique Exhibition | Saturday 28 May, 1pm
Join Forrester Gallery Curator, Imogen Stockwell, for a tour of the Maritza Boutique|Ōamaru-London exhibition.
Explore the idea behind the show about 1960s and 1970s Ōamaruvian women who were taking on the business world through their creativity, ingenuity and determination.
The Maritza Boutique made clothing for the people of Ōamaru for over a decade, keeping the local community up-to-date with the latest fashions and importing wonderful and unique fabric.
Oamaru Opera House
SOLD OUT: Free Movie | The Greatest Showman| Saturday 28 May, 4pm
On the Saturday, head to the Opera House for a free 4pm screening of The Greatest Showman. With free popcorn and prizes on offer it’s an afternoon of big-top, musical fun! Make sure to pick up your free movie tickets from the Opera House in advance so you don’t miss out. Spot prizes for best circus outfit!
Doors open 3pm. Tickets must be collected prior to the show from the Opera House to avoid missing out: Mon-Fri 8.30-2pm

Waitaki Museum & Archive
Free Activity | Tracing the Past | Sunday 29 May, 10am - 12.30pm
At the Museum on Sunday from 10am-12.30pm, join Waitaki Museum Curator Henry Buckenham in Tracing the Past as he helps visitors learn about how we construct the past from skeletal remnants and fossils, in a fun, hands on activity.
