Dog Control Policy and By-Law Update on Council Agenda

Changes to Waitaki District’s Dog Control Policy and Dog By-Law will be brought to next week’s full meeting of the Waitaki District Council.
The review of both the policy and by-law began in late 2023, with a community engagement about the existing policies. Council must review them every ten years, with the last update being 2014.

Project Reclaim finished at Beach Road

Waitaki District Council’s Project Reclaim, the programme of removing historic landfill and fly-tipping at risk of contaminating coastal Waitaki, wrapped up the extraction phase earlier this month.

The project involved the removal of almost 48,000 tonne of waste from the closed Hampden Landfill, and just over 19,000 tonne from two fly-tipping sites at Beach Road.

Remembrance Day marked with lawn poppies

As the Waitaki District marks Remembrance Day on Monday 11 November, our parks contractor Green By Nature has added four painted poppies to grassed surfaces in Ōamaru.

The poppies, which will be located at the Oamaru New Cemetery, the War Memorial on Thames Street and the RSA Garden of Memories, have been provided free of charge by the contractor to mark the 105th commemoration of Armistice Day.
