Using the Airport

The airport is available for general use. Landing fees are payable for all runways.

Facilities available at the airport include:

  • GOFUEL Air Stop: AVGAS access via GoFuel Card – at Aero Club.
  • Air BP Jet A1 – access via BP swipecard at the terminal apron.
  • Fire extinguishers located at the fuel sites.
  • Please note the gates to the airport may be locked outside business hours.

Drone usage

Consent must be obtained from the Waitaki District Council prior to any operation of an unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) within a 4-kilometre radius of the Oamaru Airport, operation of a drone within the airport property is prohibited. Please contact the Property Department property@waitaki.govt.nz

All drone pilots operating within 4km of the Oamaru Airport must hold one of the following qualifications:

  1. A Model Flying New Zealand Wings Badge
  2. A Pilot Qualification (from an Approved Person or Organisation)
  3. A Pilot Licence or Certificate issued under Rule Part 61 or Part 149
  4. Under Supervision

All drone flights within a 4km radius of any aerodrome in New Zealand must be lodged on the Airshare New Zealand pilot’s app. 

We advise people to always read the rules in full, along with the relevant advisory circulars on the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) website before using a drone within 4 kilometre radius of the airport.
