The contract for the installation of the new Awamoa Park toilet block has been awarded to Specialised Services Group.

The toilet is a four-cubicle prefabricated type supplied by Exeloo. Exeloo toilets have been used extensively throughout the Waitaki District and in many other districts across the country.

Recreation Project and Assets Officer, Mark Burgher said, “The Awamoa Park toilet block has reached the end of its useful life, no longer meets current hygiene standards and are difficult to keep clean. The existing block will be demolished and replaced with a new toilet block. We chose this particular style of toilet block as they are easy to install, maintain and come prefabricated reducing site construction time. They are also low maintenance, and the modern surfaces are easy to keep hygienic and clean.”

The new toilets are scheduled to be installed in November 2023, after which the existing toilet block will be demolished and the surrounding landscape made good. This will ensure facilities are available to the public throughout this process.

Council will then consider how best to beautify the locale. The Waiareka Valley Lions will be providing their famous picnic tables as an added bonus for the grounds. Over the years they have produced 33 of these tables, which can be found throughout the district.

Awamoa Park is a popular pit stop for those travelling through town. The park has picnic tables and a large sports area that is utilised by groups in both summer and winter.
