In New Zealand most people live within 5 kilometres of the sea, or a body of water. For this reason, it is vital that everyone is taught basic skills to enable them to be safe in and around the water.

With this in mind, Waitaki Aquatic Centre is encouraging staff, customers, members of the public and businesses to “Give the gift of Swimming” this Christmas.

This is the second year we are running this initiative. In the past year we have supplied over 250 lessons and 17 children who would never had access to lessons have benefitted from this initiative. To be able to do this we rely on donations from companies, businesses, staff, our customers, and the general public.

For every child we teach to swim and have water safety skills, we lower the risk of a child drowning and grow confidence in our in our children to love swimming and the water.

We would like to encourage you to donate a gift of a single swimming lesson or whatever you are comfortable donatin. The money donated will fund swimming lessons for families and people in the community who do not have the means to pay for lessons. The cost of a lesson is $9.00. A term of lessons is $90.

We will be working with organisations within the community who will help us identify the families or people who will benefit most from the donations. Donors will have their name added to a bauble on the Waitaki Aquatic Centre Christmas Tree.

You can contribute in the following ways, come into the pool and the team at reception will help you, or by internet banking.
