With the holidays ahead, Waitaki District Council would like to provide an update on the planned film production taking place in Oamaru in January.

Locals will have already noted the appearance of the ‘new Council subdivision’ behind Harbour Street. The tent city is a set for the production, and will be taken down over the Christmas and New Year period. Some sets which have been constructed will have a 24 hour security presence during this time.

  • Council is also producing a map showing alternate bus stops which will be available between Thursday 9 January and Monday 20 January 2025.
  • It also shows routes bus companies will be using to access the Oamaru Harbour and Oamaru Blue Penguin Colony during this time.
  • The Itchen Street public toilets will not be closing due to filming.
  • The Oamaru Farmers Market will not be held on 12 January 2025 following an agreement with the production team.

There will be road closures intermittently during this period, but the production team will endeavour to maintain pedestrian access to the heritage precinct when and wherever possible.

Here are some indicative timings, however the schedule and exact timings for location usage will not be available until the night before each filming day so these may change.

  • Sunday 12 January - 11.45am – 9.45pm - Tyne Street, Top of Harbour Street, Harbourside Park, Back of Steampunk
  • Monday 13 January - 11.35am – 9.45pm - Tyne Street, Harbourside Park
