We’ll be keeping you up to date with the deadlines as this year’s Local Government elections approach including key dates for candidates, where to find information about standing for council, voter enrolment etc.
What do you stand for?
Waitaki District Council is looking for community leaders. If you care about the district and want to be a part of steering us toward a bright future then stand for election to council or community board. Know someone who would be ideal? Give them a nudge.
Nominations open on the 15 July and close 12 August. We’ll be hosting an information evening for candidates. This will be presented by Electionz.com Anthony Morton on Monday 18 July. Information about what’s required will be updated on council website or you can have a chat with Alex Parmley CE or with one of the councillors that will be leaving council this year, they will be happy to fill you in on what the job is like.
Live elsewhere but care about Waitaki and who runs the place?
If you own property in the district and want to vote in the upcoming Local Government elections, you’ll need to get enrolled soon.
The Rate Payer Enrolment campaign runs from 2 March to 30 April 2022. This is for people who own property in Waitaki but live elsewhere – once you’re enrolled you become eligible to vote in the ward where you own property.
You can find the form for Rate Payer Enrolment on our website, along with other helpful information. Just type 'elections' into the search bar.
And finally, the most important thing of all!!!
Because you can’t make a blind bit of difference if you aren’t enrolled to vote, check that you actually are: https://vote.nz/enrolling/enrol-or-update/enrol-or-update-online/
