With the Events Centre project moving closer and closer towards its build phase, North Otago touch rugby has made the decision to relocate to Awamoa Park.
Increased use from other sports, fixture congestion and the current and future availability of fields has put pressure on the ability to deliver a touch competition season in one place, on one day at Centennial Park.
Touch Rugby recognised the opportunity to use a multiple-field location to deliver its season in one place, and on one day as potentially opposed to having to stage competitions over multiple days. The move to Awamoa Park will also enable Touch Rugby Fields to have clearer line marking, and consistent sized fields.
Shannon Poulson of North Otago Touch said: “We haven't taken the decision to move lightly and understand this may make it more difficult for some players to attend. This is the only way we can ensure the competition can run for all age groups as we juggle volunteer and field availability. We are excited to make Awamoa Park the new 'touch fields' this Summer!”
This high profile WDC park will be used winter & summer seasons. Touch will continue to be on Tuesdays at Awamoa Park. The season starts this year on Tuesday 17th October.
