Now is the time to submit on the Draft Long Term Plan
Published on 11 February 2025
Waitaki District Council is currently consulting on its Draft Long Term Plan, the budget and projects for the next nine years, and wants everyone to have their say.
For last year’s Enhanced Annual Plan, we had 98 submissions. After a week of the Draft Long Term Plan consultation being open, we’ve already had over 50, and there’s three weeks left for you to have you say.
This plan is a big deal, and takes in the future of water services for the Waitaki District, protecting assets that coastal erosion is threatening, proposes potential property sales to reduce debt, and creating an Economic Development Agency for the District.
This year the current proposed average rate increase for the Waitaki District is 10.3%. The Mayor and Councillors are committed to ensuring a balanced budget is delivered, but in order to do that they are asking the community what they think.
There’s also lot of infrastructure investment due in the next nine years, to core Council services like our water and roading network.
All of the proposed projects are listed on the Let’s Talk Waitaki page, as well as a description of what each project does. Click on ‘Make A Submission’ to fill out the online survey.
Or you can email your thoughts to consult@waitaki.govt.nz, or mail it directly to Long Term Plan Submission, Waitaki District Council, Private Bag 50058, Ōamaru 9444. Submissions can also be dropped off at Libraries or Council Offices.
