The installation of community safety, or CCTV, cameras in Palmerston will be open to public views this month. The proposed cameras would cover the area including the public toilets, the bus drop off area and the monument at the corner of Bond Street.
Police crime data, and successes in reducing crime elsewhere in the Waitaki District, indicate that the installation of community safety cameras in the Palmerston CBD would help prevent and resolve crime. It would also increase the perception of safety for local residents.
However it is important for the community to be supportive and aware of the benefits that the installation of community safety cameras can bring to their community.
The Waihemo Community Board, NZ Police and Waitaki District Council would like to hear your views on the installation of these community safety cameras.
You can email your view regarding community safety cameras in Palmerston to strongerwaitaki@waitaki.govt.nz by the 4th December 2023.
There will also be a public discussion on site between 4 – 5pm on Monday 4th December. If weather is inclement, then meet at the Waihemo Service Centre Library to have your say.
The Waihemo Community Board meeting will then follow at 6pm on Monday 4th December.
