Council ran a procurement process for a roading maintenance contractor earlier this year which resulted in all tenders being declined due to budgetary constraints.

Council has since reviewed the contract inclusions and added additional funding through the Annual Plan and is now running a new procurement process.

Council’s Acting Assets Group Manager, Paul Hope said, “The roading maintenance contract represents a significant expenditure for Council, with an approximate annual spend of $5.2M. The importance of the contract on the community cannot be overstated, as the successful delivery of maintenance services on Council’s roads and footpaths affects us all.”

The procurement occurs in two stages with the first stage requesting a registration of interest. This first stage is complete with three contractors having registered their interest. Invitations for tender have now been extended, the second stage in the process.

Paul Hope continues, “We hope to receive offers from all of those invited to tender to undertake maintenance activities on Council’s roads through the tender process to ensure the community gets the best possible value for money.”

The Council will also ensure a robust assessment occurs. As such, the Council has opted to have a diverse tender evaluation team which will include representatives from Council, external agencies and an independent.

Council is scheduled to consider the award of the tender in August.
