The Friends of the Forrester Gallery are delighted to have opened the ‘Uplifting Art Auction’ exhibition on 6 July 2024. The exhibition and auction run until 1 September 2024. Over $3000 in bids have already been placed. The exhibition is on the top floor of the Forrester Gallery with over twenty artworks for sale. Most works are for sale via silent auction but other works can be purchased directly. The artworks have all been donated by supporters of the Forrester Gallery.

The Friends are raising funds for the extension of the Forrester Gallery building.  Director of the Forrester Gallery, Chloe Searle said “the planned extension includes a public lift, a purpose-built collection store space, a loading dock, a new touring exhibition space, as well as an education and events space.  The Friends are now in the final stages of raising the money needed to make this project a reality.”

Chair of the Friends, Heather Machin says “There is something for everyone, with artworks for different ages, styles and values. I would like to thank everyone who has so generously donated works. While many donations have come from locals, Wētā Workshop have also got on board with a donation of a Dr Grordbort's sculpture.”

Many of the works are for sale with no reserve. Bidders need to contact the Forrester Gallery to register as a bidder and then place their bids. The art works can be viewed in the exhibition and also online at https://www.culturewaitaki.org.nz/Whats-On/Uplifting-Art-Auction

Building work on the extension is expected to start in early 2025 with completion projected for 2026.
