Outgoing Waitaki Deputy Mayor Melanie Tavendale will continue to represent Council on the Waitaki Events Centre Project Board to provide some continuity until Council determines new representation after the October 2022 local elections.
Melanie Tavendale looks forward to bridging that gap until the next trienniums Elected Members settle in. Melanie Tavendale said, “Consistency and momentum is important. This gives us the opportunity provide a smooth handover once new Council gets their feet under the table.”
The Waitaki Events Centre Project Board has also recommended Geoff Douch is appointed to join the board as a representative from Network Waitaki. This additional representation would bring further technical and engineering expertise to the board and as Network Waitaki is a naming sponsor of the Event Centre, represent their interest at a board level.
Melanie Tavendale, “The Waitaki Events Centre Project Board is excited to welcome Geoff Douch to the Board. Geoff will bring technical and engineering skill to the project which will prove invaluable as we continue forward.”
The revised membership now consists of two Waitaki District Council representatives which includes Melanie Tavendale (final representation for WDC will be decided after the election), Kevin Malcolm (Waitaki Events Centre Trust), Doug Hurst (Waitaki Events Centre Trust), David Higgins (Te Rūnanga o Ngai Tahu), Peter Robinson (Independent) and Geoff Douch (Network Waitaki).
