The rising cost of living is impacting on all of us, and in combination with the lingering effects of the Covid restrictions has given rise to members of the Stronger Waitaki Coalition being unanimous in their concern for our older citizens, and how isolation and fixed incomes are influencing their health and wellbeing.
In 2017 Stronger Waitaki, in collaboration with Grey Power and Age Concern conducted a senior's survey to learn more about the barriers, needs and circumstances of older people living in our community. Five years later we are now looking running the survey again, with the same questions plus a few extra Covid specific questions.
Waitaki District Council Community Development Coordinator, Yvonne Avis said, “The comparative data we will be able to get from this survey will be invaluable to help inform future initiatives that will improve the health and wellbeing of our older people and continue us along the path of creating an Age Friendly Waitaki.”
To get the best data we can, we encourage those in the 65+ age group to participate in the survey. Paper copies will be available in the following places:
Waitaki District Libraries Community House Waitaki District Council HQ foyer
There will also be an electronic link available on numerous platforms including Waitaki District Council, Waitaki District Libraries and Stronger Waitaki websites.
The survey will go live on Tuesday 11 October – Friday 11 November.
