Friday’s rain may have had most people indoors, but for Rob Douglas of the Oamaru Beautifying Society, it was a good day to view the new native plants that will soon be added to the Oamaru Public Gardens water play area.
The Oamaru Beautifying Society has sponsored the plants, as part of their ongoing work. The society, and Mr Douglas’ grandfather, were responsible for the planting of the famous Waitaki District Memorial Oaks.
Despite some delays due to October’s wet conditions, the work at the water play area is nearing its conclusion – with the newly arrived native plants filling the beds and catchment areas, and hydroseeding of the surrounding ground to provide a green and clean surface for water fun this summer.
Council can reveal that the swings will be returned to the garden, after they were moved to allow construction of the interactive water play area.
We appreciate the community’s patience and will be letting you know of the opening date as soon as the final landscaping and associated work is complete.
Our deepest thanks to Mr Douglas and the Oamaru Beautifying Society for their support of this project and sponsorship of these beautiful plants.
