Talking about the big stuff: Rates, Roads and Water

Following on from last year’s Long Term Plan consultation, it’s time for the rubber to hit the road when it comes to Waitaki’s big projects. We will start engagement with the community on the Annual Plan 2022/23 from Wednesday 13th April - closing 5pm on Wednesday 4th May 2022.

We have a big year ahead, and there are some key items identified in the engagement document including 3 Waters, Roading, Drainage, Landfills, EOC and the Government Reforms that the residents of Waitaki really need to be informed about. There is a lot happening right across Council and Waitaki.  The Annual Plan engagement document addresses some of the work we have ahead, as well as some of the challenges and opportunities we are facing.

We have a lot to do on our 3 Waters infrastructure to make sure it meets new compliance requirements, and to future-proof it. We have some drainage issues that we want to address. To save some trees, there will only be a limited number of printed engagement documents available, instead we will print them on demand for you, and we’ll even post them out. If you would like a copy please collect one from Council HQ, the library, or any of the district libraries, or give us a call and we can send one to you.

Mayor for Waitaki, Gary Kircher said, “We welcome feedback on any of the proposals or topics we have raised – or any other feedback people would like to offer. There is a lot of work to be done as we keep on top of maintenance of our infrastructure, as we continue to deliver our many services while dealing with the challenges of inflation and supply shortages. Are we doing the things that are important to you? This is your opportunity to have your say!”

If you need help filling in the feedback form – either online or on a printed version – our team at the Oamaru Library are happy to help you. The engagement document will be available in hardcopy or online no later than 13th April 2022.

There will also be community drop-in opportunities to discuss the Annual Plan in the coming weeks.
