Conserve Water Notice: Waihemo Water Supply

On Display Indefinitely

Update 20/12/2024 1:15pm

The Conserve Water Notice will now remain in place during the 2024/25 summer period.

In the 2023/24 summer period, Waitaki District Council was notified by the Otago Regional Council that it was exceeding its weekly water take limit, impacting the Shag River which had sustained low flows.

To ensure this limit is not exceeded this summer, a conserve water notice is required. Demand is already trending upwards so consumers are asked to be mindful of their water use and reduce where possible to avoid further restrictions.

Conserve Water Notice - Waihemo Water Supply

Consumers on the PALMERSTON, DUNBACK AND GOODWOOD Zones of the WAIHEMO WATER SUPPLY are asked to CONSERVE WATER until further notice. Avoiding outdoor use such as hosing, would be appreciated.

A water main failed overnight, draining the Palmerston Reservoir. The Goodwood and Dunback Zone pumps have been off while we have attempted to fill the Palmerston Reservoir however these need to be turned back on so we need consumers to reduce demand so the reservoir can keep filling.
We thank consumers for their co-operation and assistance and will provide further updates tomorrow.
