Waitaki Welcomes New Citizens

Waitaki welcomed thirty of the newest New Zealand citizens on Tuesday this week at the first Citizenship Ceremony of 2025, held at the Oamaru Opera House.

Licence to Occupy (Grazing) available

A Licence to Occupy (grazing) is available for approximately 1.3ha of land situated at 12 Redcastle Road. The property may be entered and freely inspected by interested parties on 15 March 2025, 22 March 2025 and 29 March 2025. If the gate is locked interested parties may gain access over the fence.

Record-breaking submissions for Draft Long Term Plan

This year’s consultation on the Draft Long Term Plan has seen a record response from the Waitaki community with 650 submissions made during the four week process. The previous Long Term Plan submissions record was 487, set 15 years ago in 2012.

Waste Levy for Project Reclaim waived

The Ministry for Environment has approved the waiver of the $4,047,929.40 waste levy for Project Reclaim. This will reduce the total cost of the project to $14.5 million, with potential further cost reductions possible if an ETS waiver of around $1.4 million is granted by the government. This is not money returned to Council, but money that Council now does not have to pay.

Response to claims about Council's Financial Position

We have contacted the association with this information, and requested corrections or retractions of the erroneous claims made in that article. We are publishing it here to inform the community.
