Rubbish and Recycling Services

rubbish recycling.jpg

Council doesn't provide a kerbside rubbish or recycling collection service in Waitaki, which is why we don't charge rates for these services. Kerbside rubbish and recycling collection is instead provided by private contractors.

There are several private contractors operating in the district who offer a range of kerbside collection services - including rubbish, recycling and greenwaste collection. You pay them directly for the services you need and this means the less you waste, the less you pay.

If you don't want kerbside collection, there are several Council and community-run drop-off services available. Locations, opening hours and charges for these services are included in the drop-off services information.

Kerbside collection services

Kerbside collection services are provided by private companies. Contact them directly to choose what service suits you best.

Rubbish collection

Council does not provide a rubbish collection service in Waitaki and therefore does not charge rates for this. Kerbside collection services are provided by private contractors.

You can choose a collection service that suits you best and pay for what you use. This means if you produce less waste, you pay less. We think this is a fairer way than everyone paying the same rate.

The following businesses will pick up your rubbish from outside your property. You will need to check with them to confirm which areas they service, their pickup days and where you should leave your rubbish.

Some of these providers also offer recycling and greenwaste collection services.

This is the most up-to-date information made available to Council from these businesses. We cannot guarantee its accuracy and recommend you contact them directly to confirm details.

Waitaki Resource Recovery Park

The Waitaki Resource Recovery Trust operates the District’s Material Recovery Facility (MRF), the Waitaki Resource Recovery Park.

The Park can offer a range of recycling, reuse and diversion options through both what they collect to get to recycling markets and their Get Sorted shop. The also host the Oamaru MenzShed who reuse some construction and demolition materials. They are constantly looking for diversion and recycling opportunities and can usually take more waste types than kerbside collection providers so it pays to check in with them regularly. You can also use our “What can I take where” directory as a quick reference.

The Park is also operated as a social enterprise. They are assisted by an annual operational grant from Council to help provide our community with the best recycling, minimisation and diversion opportunities possible.
